NEW REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE

Bill 25, an Act to fight illegal tourist accommodation was adopted on June 7, 2023 by the Quebec government.

This law stipulates that the registration of a tourist accommodation establishment will henceforth take the form of a registration certificate.

This certificate bears the Minister's signature and contains the registration number, the address and category of the establishment, the number of lodging units offered for rent, the date of issue and expiry of the certificate and, where applicable, the name of the establishment.

If your establishment holds a valid registration, you will have received the new registration certificate by email. Keep it safe!

You must display this certificate at all times in public view, at the main entrance to the establishment or, if the establishment is located in a building with several dwelling units, at the entrance to the building;

If you use the services of transactional digital accommodation platforms (Airbnb, for example), they will ask you for a digital copy of this certificate. You will need to send it to them so that your establishment can be, or continue to be, displayed on these platforms;

The registration certificate replaces the written notice and/or classification sign*;

The certificate is valid for the duration of the registration, i.e. for a period of 12 months. Each year, following the renewal of your establishment's registration, a certificate valid for a new 12-month period will be sent to you by email;

*In accordance with section 48 of the Tourist Accommodation Act, classification signs and their reproductions must not be used after August 31, 2023.

To ensure the authenticity of the registration certificate and enable operators of transactional digital accommodation platforms to verify its validity and origin, a digital seal has been affixed to the document.

*****Warning -- Digital certificate signature panel*****

When you open your digital registration certificate in PDF format, you may notice a warning in the blue box of the signature panel at the top of the page:

The digital seal affixed to the PDF document is valid and has been issued by the Infrastructure à clés publiques gouvernementale (ICPG), the Quebec government's certification service.

This warning is normal and should not be cause for concern. The registration certificate sent is in conformance and authentic.
