Since the adoption of the Bill 25, an Act to fight illegal tourist accommodation on June 7, 2023, by the Quebec government, the registration of a tourist accommodation establishment takes the form of a registration certificate.
This certificate bears the signature of the minister and contains the registration number, address, and category of the establishment, the number of rental accommodation units offered, the dates of issuance and expiration of the certificate, and, if applicable, the name of the establishment.
According to the registration, the renewal, or a modification to any of the information that must be included in the certificate, the registration certificate for your establishment will be sent to you by email in PDF format. Keep it safe!
The certificate is valid for the duration of the registration, which is a period of 12 months. Each year, following the renewal of your establishment's registration, a certificate valid for a new period of 12 months will be sent to you by email.
• If your establishment falls under the categories of General Tourist Accommodation or Youth Hostel, the most recent registration certificate for it is also available for download in the "Documents" section of your account on the CITQ Portal.
You must display the certificate at all times within public view, at the main entrance of the establishment or, if the establishment is located in a building containing multiple residential units, at the entrance of the building;
If you use the services of transactional digital hosting platforms (such as Airbnb, for example), they will ask you for a digital copy of this certificate. You will need to provide it to them in order for your establishment to be, or continue to be, listed on these platforms;
IMPORTANT REMINDER! In accordance with section 48 of the Tourist Accommodation Act and under the risk of a fine from Revenu Québec, the use of a classification sign or a reproduction of it has been prohibited since August 31, 2023.
To ensure the authenticity of the registration certificate and enable operators of transactional digital accommodation platforms to verify its validity and origin, a digital seal has been affixed to the document.
*****Warning -- Digital certificate signature panel*****
When you open your digital registration certificate in PDF format, you may notice a warning in the blue box of the signature panel at the top of the page:
The digital seal affixed to the PDF document is valid and has been issued by the Infrastructure à clés publiques gouvernementale (ICPG), the Quebec government's certification service.
This warning is normal and should not be cause for concern. The registration certificate sent is in conformance and authentic.
