As the operator of a tourist accommodation establishment, you are subject to certain obligations regarding the display of the registration number and certificate: |
The registration number and, where applicable, the name of your establishment must be clearly indicated in any advertising used for promotion and on any website, whether or not transactional, used in connection with the operation of your establishment; |
The establishment's registration certificate must be displayed in full view of the public, at the main entrance of the establishment, unless the establishment is located in a building that includes two or more residential units, in which case the display must be at the building's main entrance; |
You must provide the registration certificate to the transactional digital platforms through which your establishment's accommodation offerings are distributed. |
IMPORTANT! Failure to comply with any of the obligations described above may result in a fine issued by Revenu Québec. |

In the past, the former Act respecting tourist accommodation establishments (which was in effect until August 2022) stipulated that the classification sign, which served as a certification, had to be displayed "during the operating period of the establishment."
The current law does not make this type of distinction regarding the display of the registration certificate. Therefore, it must be displayed in full view of the public at all times during its validity period.

In the past, the Tourist accommodation Regulation specified that the written notice had to be placed " in view of the tourist clientele ," which allowed it to be displayed inside the establishment. Since June 2023, the Regulation states rather that the certificate "must be displayed in full view of the public at the main entrance to the establishment unless the establishment is situated in building that includes two or more residential units, in which case the registration certificate must be displayed at the main entrance to the building" This distinction between "public" and "tourist clientele" thus establishes that the certificate must be posted in a visible or accessible place to everyone and not only to the tourist clientele. |
